Mountain Top Golf Cars – PCI Solution case study


Mountain Top Golf Cars has been selling online for many years and the web channel is a significant revenue source for their business. Their site - Golfcarcatalog.com - is one of the largest collections of golf car and other small utility vehicle parts and accessories on the web. It's also the repository for a wealth of enthusiast information, reviews and golf car history.  

On the back end, the web site is integrated with their accounting application and under the hood, extensive custom functionality specific to their unique products, business rules, inventory  and shipping requirements is in play. The web site is a big chunk of their business - and it's a big, complex site with many moving parts. So, when required to consider options for meeting the Payment Card Industry Data Security Standard (PCI-DSS requirements), recreating all of this on a certified platform was going to require a substantial commitment of time and dollars.

Fortunately, due to our partnership with FrontStream Payment Solutions, Adhost was able to offer FrontStream's  E-com gateway solution to Mountain Top.  With the E-com gateway's 'pay tunnel' method for handling the credit card portion of the transaction, Mountain Top's site and server never touch the actual card information - greatly reducing their PCI footprint and path to compliance. The card information is stored securely in FrontStream's PCI certified repository and Golfcarcatalog.com receives a 'token' that can be used if subsequent transactions are necessary against the stored card value.  

From the point of view of the customer, there is no experience of appearing to leave the Golfcarcatalog.com site and being redirected to a different site to enter the card information - important, since cart abandonment is estimated to rise significantly in such 3rd party redirection payment solutions.

Shortening the path to PCI compliance by switching to the E-com gateway is by no means the only benefit Mountain Top has realized. They’re saving money in the following ways:
